MAVERICK SUMMER SWIM LEAGUE HISTORY
The Maverick Summer Swim League was formed in early January 2004 as a low-cost,
hands-on management option to other summer swim leagues operating in the San
Antonio area. The league incorporated with the state of Texas as a non-profit
youth sports organization on January 24, 2004. The Internal Revenue Service
also recognized the MSSL as a non-profit 501 c 3 organization dating back to
its inception.
In the summer of 2004, the MSSL consisted of seven founding teams. They were: the
Boerne Barracudas, Churchill Estates Stallions, Hunters Chase II Hurricanes, Knights
Cross Crusaders, Oaks at Sonterra Sharks, Stone Mountain Stingrays, and the
Whispering Oaks Blue Marlins Swim Teams. In 2005, the league grew to ten teams when
it added three additional teams: Braun Oaks Dolphins, Fredericksburg Heart of Texas
(HOTS), and the Mountain Lodge Manta Rays Swim Teams. In 2006, the league
accepted three teams including the Heights at Stone Oak Hammerheads, the Jewish
Community Center Sting Rays, and the Parkwood Piranhas Swim Teams. MSSL
added four teams and divided into 3 Divisions for the 2007 season. The new teams are:
the Stonegate Hill Storm, Sonoma Ranch Renegades, Timberwood Park Tiburones, and
the NW Crossing Dolphins Swim Teams. In the spring of 2008 the MSSL is pleased to
add our latest member, the Wildhorse Cyclones Swim Team. The league currently has 18
summer league member teams.
From its earliest beginnings, the Maverick Summer Swim League has continually received
strong corporate sponsorship support from D&J Sports. The MSSL wishes to salute
D&J Sports for their backing of our non-profit organization.
